Pā Point

Pā Point is a bespoke coastal cabin at Doctor’s Point in Waitati, on New Zealand’s South Island.

Designed collaboratively by Nokken and the project owners, the cabin was developed specifically for its setting rather than adapted from an existing Nokken model.

The project brought together the owners’ understanding of the land with Nokken’s architecture, product design and hospitality experience, creating a cabin unique to Pā Point.

A cabin shaped by its place.

Set above Canoe Beach at Doctor’s Point and looking towards Māpoutahi Pā, Pā Point was designed in direct response to its surroundings. Its scale, form, materiality and relationship with the site were developed collaboratively, creating an architecture that sits quietly within the wider landscape.

As the seasons change, so does the experience of the cabin. The architecture remains constant while everything around it shifts.

Pā Point was developed as a bespoke collaboration between Nokken and the project owners. Rather than beginning with a predetermined cabin, the design evolved around the site, the owners’ ambitions and the experience they wanted to create.

Nokken worked collaboratively across the design development and delivery of the cabin, resulting in a project created specifically for Pā Point.
